Dr. Altman is Sol C. Chaikin Professor of National Health Policy at The Florence Heller Graduate School for Social Policy, Brandeis University. In 1997, he was appointed by President Clinton to the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Tufts-New England Medical Center.

Leanne Kaiser Carlson is a futurist who senses what is possible and advises CEOs, boards, providers, philanthropists, and foundations. She is a founder of the Kaiser Institute, a place of exploration and strategy-building for the future. Ms. Kaiser Carlson also is a writer, hospital board member, teacher, and member of the VHA Foundation Board, which funds innovations in health care.

She serves on the faculties of Estes Park Institute and the American College of Physician Executives, and has presented at hundreds of educational conferences including programs conducted by the American Health Lawyers Association, medical societies, and hospital associations. Ms. Haddad is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.

Mr. Horty is managing partner of the Pittsburgh law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. He is the president and editor of HortySpringer Publications. He serves on the boards of Mercy Hospital and Mercy Health System in Pittsburgh. He is an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives. Mr. Horty has been the chair of the Estes Park Institute since 1984.

Charlotte Jefferies is a senior partner with the Pittsburgh law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern and a research editor for HortySpringer Publications. She works as a legal consultant and educator to community hospitals and other health organizations regarding various health and health care legal and ethical issues and best practices. She is a member of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the Advisory Board of the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation and the Executive Committee of the National Practitioner Data Bank.

Dr. Kaiser is a health care futurist, an executive coach, a community organizer, and an organizational consultant. A pioneer in many emerging areas of health care, Dr. Kaiser is founder and president of Kaiser Consulting, a health care consulting firm in Brighton, CO. He also is co-founder of the Kaiser Institute, a postgraduate educational program providing advanced training in integrative medicine, intuition, and philanthropy.

Dr. Kaplan is a Guest Fellow of the Estes Park Institute.  He was named Chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Medical Center in February 2000.  He serves on the Virginia Mason Medical Center Board of Directors, is Chair of the Management Committee, serves on the Board of Governors of Benaroya Research Institute and the Board of the Virginia Mason Foundation.  Dr. Kaplan has practiced Internal Medicine at Virginia Mason Medical Center since 1982.  He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan and is board-certified in internal medicine.  He is also certified as a Fellow through the American College of Medical Practice Executives.

Foundation for Medical Excellence
Dr. Kitzhaber is a former emergency physician, legislator, and two-term Governor of Oregon. He is the past president of the Oregon State Senate, where he authored and implemented the groundbreaking Oregon Health Plan. His legislative career was marked by active leadership in public education, community development, environmental stewardship, and a wide variety of health care issues. Dr. Kitzhaber has been President of the Estes Park Institute since January 2003.

Dr. David Lawrence retired in May 2002 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals. He had held both positions since 1992. Dr. Lawrence currently serves on the Boards of Agilent Technologies, Raffles Medical Group of Singapore, McKesson Corporation, and the RAND Health Advisory board, among others. He also serves in advisory roles to the biotechnology industry.

Dr. Lawrence will be presenting in San Diego, CA (Oct 31 - Nov 3, 2010) and in Maui, HI (Jan 23 - 28, 2011).

John (Jack) C. Lewin, MD

American College of Cardiology
Dr. Lewin has been Chief Executive Officer of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) since November 2006. Under his leadership, ACC has aspired to contribute greatly to national leadership in advocacy related to expanding access to care for uninsured persons, and in reforming Medicare, Medicaid, and the financing and delivery of quality health care.

Dr. Lewin serves on numerous national boards and advisory bodies, including being President of the national Patient Safety Institute and the founder and President of the Physicians’ Foundations, which are among the top ten health-related philanthropies in the nation, focused on promoting quality, patient safety, and health information technology adoption.

Dr. Lewin will be presenting in San Diego, CA (Oct 31 - Nov 3, 2010).

Queen's Medical Center, Honolulu

As a physician with leadership experience for over 18 years, Dr. Lin brings clarity, inspiration, and provocative challenges to her audiences by integrating practical clinical experience, systems thinking around organizational resilience, and essential information of the current patient safety and quality landscape.

Dr. Lin is an inaugural National Patient Safety Foundation/Health Forums Patient Safety Leadership Fellow (2002) and continues as core faculty, serving on the HRET National Advisory Council for the Fellowship Program. She is also on the steering committee for the VHA West Coast Patient Safety Fellowship, now in its second year. She has written books about patient safety strategies through Rapid Response Teams, Sedation/Analgesia and the Surgical Care Improvement Project.

Dr. Lin works with organizations and hospitals in their Board, MEC, joint leadership and patient safety seminars. She is currently the Hawaii Physician Lead for the CUSP: STOP BSI initiative and continues an active clinical practice in Honolulu.

Rivkin & Associates, Inc.
Mr. Rivkin is a senior fellow of the Estes Park Institute in Health Communications and Marketing Strategy. He founded Rivkin & Associates LLC, a marketing and communications consultancy, in 1989. He has worked with more than 100 hospitals and health care groups on marketing, reputation and crisis management, and other communications assignments, and he is a frequent speaker at health care conferences and retreats. He serves on the board of the Volunteers in Medicine Institute. A writer by training, Mr. Rivkin is a former journalist, magazine editor, and advertising and marketing executive. He is the co-author of six business management books, including Idea Wise, a guide to collecting, borrowing and adapting new ideas; Differentiate or Die, on finding and exploiting your unique selling proposition; and Repositioning, on marketing in an era of competition, change and crisis.

Dr. Scherger is Vice President for Primary Care at Eisenhower Medicine Center in Rancho Mirage, California. He is Clinical Professor of Family & Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine (UCSD). He is also Medical Director for Quality and Informatics at Lumetra. Dr. Scherger’s main focus is on the redesign of office practice using the tools of information technology and quality improvement.

Dr. Scherger will be presenting in LaQuinta, CA (Apr 3 - 6, 2011).

Wellspring Partners
A principal in Wellspring Partners, Ltd., Mr. Tiscornia is a former partner and director of Arthur Anderson national health care practice. He is a clinical professor in the Graduate School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Washington, and a member of the advisory board of the MHA degree program in medical management. Mr. Tiscornia's extensive experience ranges from managed care organizations to strategic and financial planning, to physician/hospital integration.

Trained at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. YaDeau practiced surgical oncology in St. Paul, MN, where he also served as president and then chairman of the Foundation for Health Care Evaluation. He has served as chief of Bethesda Lutheran Hospital's medical staff, taught at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, and was instrumental in funding and establishing the second hospice in the U.S. His themes reflect the changing imperatives that influence institutions. He is Vice-Chair of Estes Park Institute.
